Street Deliveries Safer and Easier

Large enough to cope with 28 tonne loads, a 6.5m diameter HGV access revolve manufactured by British Turntable Co. is robust enough for all-weather exterior use and, above all, safe for installation in a public place.

A HGV access revolve manufactured by British Turntable Co. under contract to Interior plc is making deliveries to three central London office blocks safer and easier.

In construction, the unit is typical of many vehicle revolves which British Turntable has manufactured from its standard vehicle turntable design range, however it is particularly unusual in that it is sited in a public street. Located at the end of a narrow cul-de-sac, the revolve enables delivery and other vehicles to be manoeuvred in this restricted area quickly, eliminating the need for multi-point turns or unsafe reversing and minimising driver fatigue. Large enough to cope with 28 tonne loads, the 6.5m diameter revolve is robust enough for all-weather exterior use and, above all, safe for installation in a public place.

The majority of British Turntable's HGV revolves are to be found out of the public eye and are used to turn anything from a small car in an office car park to a 38 tonne delivery truck in a city centre shopping area. They are installed in government buildings, including secure yards at Crown Courts and Police Stations, major high street stores and a number of commercial establishments throughout the world, where they renowned for their quality, durability and effectiveness.

The vehicle manoeuvring process is carried out from an adjacent wall-mounted control box, suitably weatherproofed and accessible only with a security key to protect from vandalism. Positioning of the vehicle on the turntable has been made easier by the provision of yellow markers, and, in the unlikely event of turntable failure, a portable external winch has been provided to enable manual rotation. All the turntable components have been located in a pit which has provision for water drainage, and all steelwork is zinc metal sprayed and sealed black to protect against corrosion.

British Turntable Co has been supplying movement to industries as diverse as retailing, heavy engineering, exhibitions, TV, film and video, aerospace and automotive for more than 40 years. Turntables range in size from 10cm diameter upwards, with larger revolves capable of carrying a military tank or an aeroplane. Amongst the company's customers are many major high street stores, including the famous London department store Harrods, national government departments, national standard test laboratories, multi-national organisations and all the major car manufacturers world wide.
